  • January 2026: Looking Back, Stepping Forward, and Elevating What We Do

    January Reflections • 2026

A Year of Elevation, Connection, and Continued Growth

January invites reflection—honoring our beginnings while stepping forward with intention.

As a new year unfolds, there is a quiet magic in January — a time that invites both reflection and intention. The pace softens just enough for us to look back at where we’ve been, while our hearts lean forward toward where we are going. For us at Kahulaleʻa, this January has been about honoring our beginnings, celebrating how far we’ve come, and setting a clear, purposeful vision for the year ahead.

When we look back on our journey, it feels almost surreal to see how much has grown from those early days. Once we turned the year from 2025 to 2026, it’s all focus ahead on the Merrie Monarch season coming up. I took some time to reflect back on one of the most meaningful milestones that ever shaped us: our very first Merrie Monarch pop-up.

Kahulaleʻa’s first Merrie Monarch pop-up—ʻohana working side by side.
Our very first Merrie Monarch pop-up — simple, humble beginnings. ʻOhana operated from the start.

At the time, it was just our ʻohana — my family and I — working side by side, setting up, talking story with customers, and pouring everything we had into bringing Kahulaleʻa to life in that space. There were no big teams, no elaborate systems — just heart, hustle, and an unwavering belief in what we were building together.

That spirit of family has always been at the core of Kahulaleʻa.

From late nights preparing for launches to early mornings setting up shop, we have grown this business hand in hand. Every milestone has been a collective effort, and every challenge has strengthened our bond. Looking back, I feel deep gratitude for those moments — they shaped who we are today.

    Our Word for 2026: Elevation

As we step into this new year, our focus is centered on one powerful word: elevation. This is not about doing more for the sake of doing more. Instead, it is about refining, polishing, and strengthening what we already do well. Elevation for us means deepening our craftsmanship, sharpening our storytelling, and continuing to create with intention and integrity.

Not more — better. Refining what we already do well with clarity and purpose.

This year also carries a renewed commitment to uplifting others in our community. In 2026, I am dedicated more than ever to supporting local businesses and entrepreneurs. This January, I had the privilege of speaking at Rush Wahine’s 11th anniversary celebration — an incredible gathering of women in business in Hawaii.

As we look ahead to February, we are excited to continue this mission of support and connection. In celebration of Valentine’s Day, we will be welcoming a few local small businesses to pop up in our store — a continuation of the beautiful collaborations we began in December 2025 with Hawaii businesses such as Pono Potions, Hooked Up Hawaii, and Iwi Nails.

These pop-ups are more than just shopping opportunities; they are about building community, creating space for local entrepreneurs, and sharing aloha in action. Stay tuned for the local businesses joining us in February.

Looking forward and as we move through this year, we carry with us gratitude for the past, clarity for the present, and hope for the future. Kahulaleʻa is more than a brand — it is a story of family, place, and purpose, and we are honored to have you here.

Cheers to a year of elevation, connection, and continued growth.

    Aloha,
    Kēhau
