    For the day the plans keep stretching; lunch, then the beach, then one more stop. The Dress Lēʻahi Butter Pūpū Ala hangs from thin straps to a straight neckline and falls in a clean line to the ankle.

    Coconut-style buttons run the full length of the front, and the lowest ones unbutton to open a walking slit. A seam below the bust shapes where the skirt begins, while a smocked back panel stretches as you move. The Pūpū Ala print draws its cone shells in fine linework over bigger shells scattered across the length of the dress.

    Pūpū ʻAlā
    Living and doing business in Waikīkī, we are surrounded by representations of Hawaiʻi. Shells appear everywhere—on clothing, jewelry, souvenirs, and artwork —yet so often the shells depicted can be found in oceans throughout the world.

    With Pūpū ʻAlā, we wanted to look closer to home.

    Pūpū ʻalā is a Hawaiian name for the beautifully patterned cone shells found in our waters. Hawaiʻi is home to dozens of species of cone shells, including varieties found only here in the Hawaiian Islands. Their intricate markings and natural geometry make each shell its own tiny work of art.

    Our Pūpū ʻAlā Collection celebrates these treasures of our kai through a distinctly Hawaiʻi lens. Rather than simply creating a “seashell print,” we chose to highlight shells that belong to the waters that surround us—the same ocean that shapes our islands, our memories and our sense of place.

    Because at Kahulaleʻa, the details matter. What we choose to depict matters. And even something as small as a pūpū can tell a story of Hawaiʻi.
