    An overshirt for the hour the trade winds pick up. The Top Poʻokela Butter Pūpū Ala is cut with room through the body under a classic shirt collar, with a hem that lands past the hip.

    Fine pintucks frame the button placket, and two patch pockets sit at the chest. Long sleeves gather into soft elastic cuffs with a gentle blouson. The 100% Cotton weave carries the Pūpū Ala print of small cone shells drawn with oversized shells faded into the fabric behind them.

    Wear it open over a white tank with denim, or buttoned on its own. It also has a matching half; the Shorts Heʻe Nalu complete the set in the same print.

    Pūpū ʻAlā
    Living and doing business in Waikīkī, we are surrounded by representations of Hawaiʻi. Shells appear everywhere—on clothing, jewelry, souvenirs, and artwork —yet so often the shells depicted can be found in oceans throughout the world.

    With Pūpū ʻAlā, we wanted to look closer to home.

    Pūpū ʻalā is a Hawaiian name for the beautifully patterned cone shells found in our waters. Hawaiʻi is home to dozens of species of cone shells, including varieties found only here in the Hawaiian Islands. Their intricate markings and natural geometry make each shell its own tiny work of art.

    Our Pūpū ʻAlā Collection celebrates these treasures of our kai through a distinctly Hawaiʻi lens. Rather than simply creating a “seashell print,” we chose to highlight shells that belong to the waters that surround us—the same ocean that shapes our islands, our memories and our sense of place.

    Because at Kahulaleʻa, the details matter. What we choose to depict matters. And even something as small as a pūpū can tell a story of Hawaiʻi.
