    Cropped, smocked, and ready for the warmest night of the trip. The Top Leʻa Lagoon Pūpū stretches on and stays put, smocked through the bust and waist.

    Thin straps tie into bows at the shoulder; retie them to change where the neckline sits, and a soft gather at the center front breaks its straight line. A small ruffle trims the hem, and there are no closures at all. Across the Pūpū print, cone shells break up the lagoon-teal fabric.

    It is cut as the partner to the Pants Mālama (sold separately) for a one-print outfit, and it wears just as easily with a white linen skirt after the trip.

    Pūpū ʻAlā
    Living and doing business in Waikīkī, we are surrounded by representations of Hawaiʻi. Shells appear everywhere—on clothing, jewelry, souvenirs, and artwork —yet so often the shells depicted can be found in oceans throughout the world.

    With Pūpū ʻAlā, we wanted to look closer to home.

    Pūpū ʻalā is a Hawaiian name for the beautifully patterned cone shells found in our waters. Hawaiʻi is home to dozens of species of cone shells, including varieties found only here in the Hawaiian Islands. Their intricate markings and natural geometry make each shell its own tiny work of art.

    Our Pūpū ʻAlā Collection celebrates these treasures of our kai through a distinctly Hawaiʻi lens. Rather than simply creating a “seashell print,” we chose to highlight shells that belong to the waters that surround us—the same ocean that shapes our islands, our memories and our sense of place.

    Because at Kahulaleʻa, the details matter. What we choose to depict matters. And even something as small as a pūpū can tell a story of Hawaiʻi.
